SCHOLARSHIP FINANCES

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

OFFICIAL SITEThe national scholarship is awarded by the Department of the Navy in 4, 3, and 2-year increments depending upon how many years you have remaining to complete your program. When on National Scholarship, the federal government pays the university to cover your tuition and fees, and provides you with a monthly spending stipend ($250-400) and semesterly book stipend ($375). During the summers, scholarship midshipmen are required to attend a summer cruise/training. Most importantly, National Scholarship status puts midshipmen on a direct path to commission upon graduation.

COLLEGE PROGRAM

Students entering the NROTC who have yet to pick up the National Scholarship, but are still eligible to continue applying are designated as College Programmers. They do not receive a stipend, but qualify for the Tuition Waiver and are still given uniforms, equipment, and access to the same training during the academic year that National Scholarship and Advanced Standing midshipmen do.

ADVANCED STANDING

In very limited amounts, eligible midshipmen are awarded Advanced Standing. This status will pay a book and monthly stipend ($375/semester and $200-400/month) identical to the scholarship and can be used with the Tuition Waiver to achieve equivalent coverage to the National Scholarship. Advanced Standing midshipmen are also expected to attend summer cruise/training. Most importantly, Advanced Standing status puts midshipmen on a direct path to commission upon graduation.
