Overview
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a training program organized by WGNB midshipmen with the purpose of preparing incoming midshipmen for life in the Illinois NROTC Battalion. Candidates will learn basic military customs and courtesies, Close Order Drill (COD), uniform preparation, and develop skills to become a successful member of the Battalion and outstanding student at the University of Illinois/Parkland Community College. It will test every candidate and push them to their limit. This is the first step in the process of becoming an honorable, courageous, and committed member of the United States Navy or Marine Corps.
Incoming freshman already on scholarship will be required to attend New Student Indoctrination (NSI) at the Recruit Training Center Great Lakes and may be required to also attend NSO. Students not on scholarship prior to attending UIUC will not be attending NSI, however, are still required to attend NSO. At the conclusion of NSO, there will be a graduation ceremony, to which relatives are invited. More information regarding NSO and the graduation ceremony will be provided to candidates by our Admin Officer prior to training.
